currently || December 2019

Can you believe it’s December already because I can’t. The end of this year is just flying by! But then again, we’ve been really busy with parties galore. Not really—but I did celebrate the big 3-3 on the first with a group of my friends and The Doctor. I haven’t had a birthday party in years and after what has felt like a really hard year, I decided this was the year I wanted to do something super fun. So, we filled the house with friends and had a day long marathon of Doctor Who starting with the Eleventh Doctor. I got to introduce some friends to the show, and we even had fish fingers and custard for dinner. Surprisingly, it’s actually not a bad combination! Beyond that, we’re in full swing Christmas around here and I think the next few weeks are going to be packed with Christmas activities But until then, here’s some of the other things I”ve been up too lately.
(And if you want to join in or see what others are up too, visit the blog in residence, where the currently link up started!)

Right now I’m currently:

wrapping || my classroom in Christmas decor! To be honest, I’m not 100% in a holiday mood this season. Case in point: I haven’t watched a single Hallmark Christmas movie yet. But, sometimes, you just have to drag out the Christmas tree and string up the lights. I’m on the last leg of this semester (two weeks to go!) and the holiday cheer in my classroom is helping tremendously. There’s something about twinkling Christmas lights that, no matter how I’m feeling, still bring a smile to my face. Perhaps I’ll leave them up the rest of the school year!

baking || When the hubs and I first married, I was an avid baker, even taking a baking class at the Army post where we lived. I still remember how, on the last day of class, Chef told me I have “good hands” and to keep at it. Fast forward 10 years later + a-not-so-great-relationship with gluten and well, I don’t bake much anymore. This season is a box of jammy dodgers for my Doctor Who birthday party and Pillsbury cinnamon rolls for our Christmas morning tradition. But sometimes, seasons are like that.

lighting || up our downstairs. As I mentioned earlier, we weren’t in the best mood to decorate this year, but once we hauled up our decorations and our tree from the basement and put on White Christmas, it just felt right. Since our tree is brand new this year, and huge, we moved it to our little foyer area instead of in front of the window, and the coziness is on point! Not to mention, I love the elf hat tree topper we found!

sending || off all the scholarship applications. Last month I shared with you that I got accepted into Hamline University’s MFA program, and so the last month has been a pile of paperwork to complete, including submitting lots of scholarship applications. I know my chances may be slim with several, but it never hurts to try.

enjoying || evenings of rest. Before Thanksgiving, we decided that in December, we were going to pause our weekly game night as well as a few other weeknight items. We’re only a few days into the month, but it’s been a welcome rest already. I’m enjoying curling up in the office with a book or my writing while the hubs grades or works on music beside me. And we finally stared watching Perfect Harmony which is all of the good feels I need right now.

I think I’ll be taking a short break from my newsletter this month, to rest and recharge, but if you want to connect, come find me on Instagram and Twitter where we can chat!
